Huddersfield Parkrun (#473)

01/01/2022. Runners of all ages and abilities decended on Greenhead Park on Saturday morning for the first Huddersfield Parkrun of 2022, spurred on by the unseasonal warm spell.

Trigger (Marsden to Edale)

09/01/2022. Sunday saw the 10th edition of the Marsden to Edale (Trigger) Race take place. Runners battled the elements to navigate their way from Marsden over Black Hill, Bleaklow and Kinder to the finish in Edale (route measured at 24 miles with 1650 meters of climbing). Profits from this race go to Woodhead Mountain Rescue.

Meltham (Tough) 10K

30/01/2022. Runners returned to Meltham for Meltham AC’s Tough 10K on Sunday after Covid stopped the 2021 race from taking place. NO.149 Andrew Heppenstall (Penistone Footpath Runners) and Liam Morris (Lindley Running Club) pictured.

06/02/2022. Heavy rain and strong winds saw the cancellation of many local Sunday League fixtures, but it could have been a lack of footballs too…. many could be found in the River Holme.

Braving the cold

19/02/2022. Snow falls in the village of Honley near Holmfirth after days of strong winds and rain.

Local Flooded Roads

20/02/2022. Motorists contend with flooded roads after a day of heavy rain in Thongsbridge near Holmfirth.

Eden’s Army Tractor Run

12/03/2022. Eden’s Army Charity Tractor Run in aid of Eden (who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma cancer in April 2021). The event saw tractors passing through villages around the Holme Valley and Penistone, raising funds for the charity.

St.Patrick’s Day Parade

20/03/2022. Huddersfield St.Patrick’s Day Parade. The theme of the Cultural Programme this year was ‘arrivals’, with the Train Station steps being the first experience of Huddersfield for many Irish (and so many others), arriving in Huddersfied, making the Parade of 32m (belived to be the second shortest parade) from the Station steps to Harold Wilson Statue so significant.

Huddersfield Town Women FC vs West Brom Women

27/03/2022. Huddersfield Town Ladies vs West Bromwich Albion Women in the Northern Premier Division, the end result saw West Brom finish with 9 players on the field and a 3-0 win for Huddersfield.

Huddersfield International Market

31/03/2022. Huddersfield International Market retuned to the town (and runs until the 3rd April). This popular market brings together over 40 stalls of continental foods and crafts offering a real taste of Europe and beyond. With something for all the family, Huddersfield’s streets will be a fantastic sensory experience with incredible smells and colourful stalls.

Golcar Utd vs AFC Blackpool

09/04/2022. Golcar Utd v AFC Blackpool at the Skye Direct Stadium for the North West Counties League Division 1 North play off semi-final – they went on to win on penalties before wining the final, gaining promotion.

HTWFC Development Squad vs Chorley Women FC Reserves

01/05/2022. Huddersfield Town Womens Development Squad 5-0 win over Chorley, crowned them champions in the Reserve Northern League.

Huddersfield Town Women FC vs Hull City

08/05/2022. Huddersfield Town Women vs Hull City Ladies in the Northern Premier Division, the end result a 2-1 win for Hull. The match rounded out a successful season for Huddersfield, with them becoming the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA County Cup champions, runners-up in the FAWNL League Cup Final and reaching the fourth round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

Golcar Lily Day

14/05/2022. Golcar Lily Day returned for the first time in three years. Large crowds were treated to Belly Dancers, re-enactment groups, music and even a fly past from a Lancaster Bomber.

Barnsley RC Road Race

22/06/2022. Action from Barnsley Road Clubs 3/4th cat Road Race on the tough circuit around Hade Edge. Oliver Akers (Zappi Junior RT) was the race winner.

Royal Duck Race (Brockholes)

03/06/2022. Some “action” from the Holme Valley Camping Royal Duck Race, held near Holmfirth.

 Yorkshire Road Race (Women)

12/06/2022. Women’s Yorkshire Regional Road Race Championships took place on the hilly Denby Dale circuit. Mary Wilkinson (Team Boompods) dominated the race, soloing her way to victory.

Race for Life (Greenhead Park, Huddersfield)

26/06/2022. Hundreds of runners and walkers decend on Greenhead Park in Huddersfield for the Cancer Research UK Race for Life.

Huddersfield Town Women FC vs Wolves Women FC

Huddersfield Town Women’s first home game of the season versus Wolverhampton Wanderers Women didn’t go quite to plan. Match report here

Huddersfield Town Women FC vs Stourbridge

Huddersfield Town Women progressed from the Determining Round of the FAWNL League Cup/Plate with a win over Stourbridge.

Huddersfield Town Women FC vs Stoke City FC Women

Huddersfield Town’s Laura Elford gets scythed down by Stokes Hollie Gibson, the referee headed straight for his back pocket and Stoke were down to ten players. From the resulting free-kick, Town were able to regain their lead as Britt Sanderson got her hat-trick in fine fashion. Read the full match report here

Remembrance Sunday

13/11/2022. Villagers of Honley pay their respects with a parade through the village and service at the village war memorial on Remembrance Sunday.

Holmfirth Harriers AC Tinker Cup

17/12/2022. Holmfirth Harriers AC held their annual prestigious Tinker Cup on Saturday, the race for club members was first run in 1908, a year after the club was formed. The “Tinker Cup” is awarded the the fastest runner on handicap (sealed so everyone starts together), with separate awards for the fastest man and woman on actual time. The course is described as “challenging” and consists of around 6 miles of cross country between Honley and Upperthong, which features dry stone walls, fences, gates, barbed wire and even a stream.

Christmas Parkrun (#518)

25/12/2022. Over 500 runners (and volunteers) decended on Greenhead Park on Sunday morning for the Christmas Day edition of the Huddersfield Parkrun.
