Over 200 runners took the rather wet start of the Idle Trail Race after the heavens opened just before the start. Luckily the sun did reappear not long after and “most” runners enjoyed a relatively dry race.
As the runners left the start field Gavin Felton (Barnsley AC) and Quentin Lewis (Baildon Runners) held a few meters lead over Tim Midgley (Bingley Harriers & AC) and Alistair Langron (Holmfirth Harriers AC).
By the finish Lewis had pulled well clear and finished over 90 seconds ahead of second placed runner Midgley, with Felton in third. Unattached Mark Byrne stormed across the finishing field to take 4th ahead of Andy Whitworth (Meltham AC). The team prize was close, with Barnsley AC taking the honours from Stainland Lions by a mere 4 points, Meltham AC were third a further 4 points behind.
In the Ladies race Margaret Beever led Stainland teammate Julie Field to a one-two, with Rachel Pilling (Kirkstall Harriers) third. Despite the 1-2 finish Stainland didn’t win the team prize (no third runner), instead the honours went to Eccleshill Road Runners (59 points), with Meltham AC piping Kippax & District Harriers for second.
