Johnson Health Tech Women’s Grand Prix Series 2011

Johnson Health Tech Women's Grand Prix Series 2011

Round Three of the Johnson Health Tech Women’s Grand Prix Series took place in Oldham on Thursday. On the same demanding circuit that the Men’s Tour Series would use later in the evening.

Motorpoint Pro Cycling rode aggressively from the start, with Round One winner Hannah Barnes benefiting from the team’s work to take the first sprint of the evening.

As the race approaching half distance a group of four went clear, Sarah Byrne (VC St Raphael), Round Two winner Dani King (Horizon Fitness RT Prendas Ciclismo) and her team mate Annie Simpson, along with Overall Series Leader Helen Wyman (Kona Factory Racing) who rode an aggressive race though out, helping the four build a lead that saw them lap most of the field by the end. The four worked well together, with Sarah Byrne (VC St Raphael) taking the sprints title for the night.

As they approached the line for the finish Byrne had been dropped slightly, with Annie Simpson taking the sprint (and her first win on the road) from team mate King, with Wyman third – enough to increase her overall lead with one round remaining. Lucy Garner led the remains of the field in, ahead of teammate Hannah Barnes, with Joanna Rowsell and Penny Rowson 7th and 8th; Horizon Fitness RT Prendas Ciclismo took the team honours.
