Sunday saw over 400 runners turn out for the tough Liversedge Half Marathon – tough hills were made even harder by the wind and rain that set in later in the race.
Two runners from Oxford Brookes Athletic Club hit the front from the start, closely followed by local runners Ben Crowther (Halifax Harriers) and Kevin Ogden (Spenborough AC).
After 3 miles Crowther led, closely followed by Robert Kerr (Oxford Brookes Athletic Club), with Andy May (Valley Striders) and Kevin Ogden (Spen A.C.) side by side. In the Ladies race Donna Edmondson Booker (Idle A.C.) held a slender lead over Sarah May (Todmorden Harriers), Julie Field (Stainland Lions) and last years winner Sally Malir (Ilkley Harriers).
By 7 miles, after the steepest climb on the course Kerr had dropped back from the front and it was left to Mike Flatley (Middleton Harriers) to chase Crowther, with May and Ogden locked together in sight of the leader. In the Ladies race Booker held a lead of over 1 minute on her nearest rival May.
Ben Crowther pulled clear of his challengers in the closing miles to finish with a minute in hand over second placed Mike Flatley, with Andy May close behind in third, having dropped Ogden. Donna Booker claimed a comfortable win in the Ladies race, with May second and Field third.
