Preview: Olympic Mountain Biking – Men (12 August)

A great course for riders and spectators alike, weather is looking like being hot again – good for the riders as the course would be hell in the rain.

Nino Schurter (SUI), Julien Absalon (FRA), Jaroslav Kulhavy (CZE) and Burry Stander (RSA) all have hopes of winning the gold. Absalon has won the last two Olympic titles (along with 4 world titles) and so starts as the favourite, but given the way the women’s race didn’t go to form, it may well be someone else’s day however.

Jose Antonio Hermida Ramos (ESP), Manuel Fumic (GER), Liam Killeen (GBR) are all outsiders – but don’t discount Robert Forstemann (GER), you can’t miss him, his legs are three times the size of anyone else. Blisteringly fast over 200 metres, pity he has to do a couple of hours before even needing a sprint finish. He’s only in the race as it allowed him to compete on the track earlier in the games – 200 metres might be his limit today.

Prediction
1 Jaroslav Kulhavy (CZE)
2 Nino Schurter (SUI)
3 Manuel Fumic (GER)

Top 10 for Killeen
