Race two of the South Yorkshire Cross Country League sponsored by Up And Running returned to Wentworth Castle. Conditions were ideal, with bright sunshine and little wind – quite different to last year’s thick fog. In fact all the runners had to deal with were the Deer, which seemed to enjoy chasing the odd runner now and then, oh and a tough up hill finish.
Rotherham Harriers dominated the women’s race with Stephanie Burns and Samantha Johnson taking first and second, backed by Natalie Grant who is beginning to shows signs of a return to form in fourth. Only Rachael Lundgren (University of Sheffield) could break up the “Women In Black”, she also took first Under 20.
Meles Okbazghi (Sheffield Running Club) ran away with the Men’s race, and it wasn’t long before he was making his way though the back of the field on the way to a comfortable win.
