A cool morning greeted over 200 runners at the Wombwell 5 on Sunday.
Mark Rushbrook (U/A) set the pace as the field completed a lap of the Go Cart track before heading out on the roads around Darfield.
As the race came back on to the Cart track for a final lap before the finish, Darren Middleton (Barnsley AC) held a comfortable lead over Rushbrook, which he held all the way to the finish. Howard Wood (City of Sheffield) finished third, and Barnsley Harriers were the team winners, despite their rivals Barnsley AC having two in the first four. John Johnson (St Theresa’s A C) took home the trophy for oldest finisher.
In the Ladies race Julie Buckley (Penistone FPR) was a clear winner from Samantha Johnson of the promoting club Wombwell Sporting AC and Pauline Griffin Barnsley Harriers in third. Penistone took the team event.
