Over 300 runners gathered for the Woodland Challenge promoted by Stadium Runners. Having had to move from its previous location, runners had a new challenge ahead of them this year at the new location of Bradley Woods Scout camp.
First to hit the front was Barnsley AC runner David Thompson, winner of last months Sandal Castle 10K (another popular multi-terrain race). He was soon followed by Rob Downs (Wilmslow RC) and Bingley’s Paul Tiffany as they headed up the long road out of the Scout camp. Margaret Beever (Stainland Lions) led the Ladies away, closely behind the leading Men.
By the finish, Thompson had opened up a healthy lead to finish in 36 mins 20 secs, Downs held a comfortable second (37:12), with Mark Pigford in third (39:42), just ahead of Kevin Hoult of the promoting club Stadium Runners.
Beever (43:07) held off team mate Lucy Thompson (43:30) to take the Ladies race, with Meltham’s Penny Ditchfield continuing her recent run of form in third (44:45).
